The Trailbreak reopened for business on Monday morning, August 24th. Citizens of the town and area and travellers are once again able to fill up with petrol or pick up a snack from the Trailbreak. The other side of the coin is that the men from the area will be able to once again have a place to hold their coffee breaks. The women can go back to holding session for their coffee breaks at the Hanley Cafe without the men folk in attendance.
Speaking of the Hanley Cafe . . . John and Polly are going to take the weekend off so they will be closing the cafe at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 28th, and reopening on Monday morning. The cafe will remain closed for all of Saturday and Sunday.
The weather of the last week certainly hasn’t help the Trailbreak to meet their reopening date. The cement was poured on Monday the 17th and it is supposed to have 5 days to cure. It was hoped that the cement would be cured enough for the reopening on Friday the 21st, however, the rain throughout the week didn’t help at all.
So now the reopening is slated for 7:00 a.m., Monday August 24th.
I’m sure all of us in the area will be greatly relieved when the Trailbreak reopens.
The Trailbreak has put up a poster in town advising that they are not going to make their planned reopening date of August 17th. The plan is to now reopen on Friday, August 21st. Mind you the rain we are supposed to be getting (are getting) this weekend might put the plans in awry.
You can check for posters in town or give the Trailbreak a call at 544-2526 for updates.
The 12-unit seniors’ residence is open for business and the tenants are moving in.
The $1.1-million building was transferred to the Elks Foundation on the end of July and the people started to move in. The Elks will pay for the construction costs so it was a break-even situation for the town.
So far 11 of the units have been spoken for and the town is continuing to get inquiries from people as far away as the Saskatoon.
Effective Tuesday, August 4th, 2009 the SHELL Trailbreak will be closed for renovations. The anticipated time for the work is 2 weeks, however, the weather will certainly impact the re-opening date.
This means there will be no petrol available in the town of Hanley. The closest pumps are at Dundurn or at Kenaston. As well, I would surmise that the propane will not be available at the Trailbreak either. There is no propane dealer in Dundurn, so the closest place to get propane is the Co-op in Kenaston. The Co-op closest at 6:00 p.m. so if you are needing propane after this time frame, you will need to travel to Davidson, Outlook or Saskatoon.
So for the next couple weeks, it will best to plan your fuel and propane purchases in advance.
I’m sure the Trailbreak owners want to get the work done as soon as they can and to re-open as soon as possible.
3:55 p.m.: I just checked at the Trailbreak and they do not/not have any propane available at the present time. On speaking to Bev, she advised she was unsure whether Superior would be supplying any propane to them in the next while. If she does in fact get propane, then you should be able to get your tanks refilled. Superior is aware the station is going to be closed for the next while, so they just may not supply any new propane until the station reopens. . .
On a side note, the pumps are going full blast, so at least some people are going to be prepared for tomorrow’s shut down
