All the campaigning (?) for the upcoming Hanley municipal election is winding up this evening. Tomorrow (Wednesday) is voting day and all citizens who meet the requirements can vote during the hours of 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Voting takes place in the Hanley Centennial Hall Clubroom.
Make sure your voice is heard. Get out and vote!
With the upcoming municipal election coming our way on October 28th there is an interest in finding out just who is running and what are their particular views. There has been quite a few new people moving into Town in the last couple years so not everyone is up on all the candidates. As well, there are newer people to Town running in the election and some of the long term residents are not totally aware who these people are. A group decided to do something about finding out answers to these questions and took the bull by the horns and got a meeting set up between the candidates and the general public.
The idea is to allow the individuals running in the upcoming election a few minutes to state what their expectations are if they are indeed elected to Town Council. To help draw out individual candidates feelings, questions could be asked from the public in attendance. From what I gather there is nothing set in stone. If the candidates are not desirous of speaking, then they don’t have to, but then this whole meeting is a ‘work in progress’, so the rules may change as it gets closer to the meeting day.
To my personal knowledge, the current mayor, Marvin Gerbrandt and the challenger, Linda deRegt are planning on attending. From the slate of 12 seeking election to the Town Council, I’m only aware for sure of two attending. That being Gwen Lafond and Dale Bagnall. I haven’t spoken to any of the other candidates so I’m not sure of their intentions, however, it sure is hoped (and maybe they are already) that all 12 on the ballot will find the time to attend this meeting.
The meeting is scheduled for the Hanley Centennial Hall at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14th in the Clubroom. Of course if there are more people attending, then it would be an easy task to move it into the larger hall area.
